SUMMER TERM 2008         NEWSLETTER NUMBER 7

                                                                                18th July 2008

Dear Parents,

Holiday Time

As the end of term and school year approaches, it is time for me to wish you all a very happy summer break in the hope you are able to spend quality time together as a family. I would like to thank you all for your continued support throughout the school year and look forward to the new term in September. I would also like to thank all the staff for their relentless hard work in what has been a very busy and challenging year but also a successful year. I hope for a well-deserved rest and break for all. Happy holidays!

Mrs Nicki Dervishi

Congratulations to Mrs Dervishi who will be visiting and working at our link school Tujatane in Zambia throughout August and September. She will be setting up a new computer system for the school and training the teachers ready for their new school year. Mrs Dervishi’s visit to Zambia is being sponsored by ‘Skillstream’ a workforce management IT company in London. We wish Mrs Dervishi well and look forward to hearing about her exciting Zambian adventures in due course.

 School Council Disco

Well done to the Year 6 School Council team who organised a great disco for all the children two weeks ago. Thank you to all the adults who helped on the day. The disco raised a further £157.34 for the Jigsaw 4U bereavement charity taking the total to £464.69.

School Council RSPCA

Yesterday a representative from the RSPCA visited school to talk to the older children in assembly. The spring term Year 6 School Council presented a cheque for £300 which was raised by them through school activities earlier in the year.

School Dinners Summer Term 2008

We still have some outstanding school dinner money that should have been paid by now, despite telephone calls and reminder letters. If you owe dinner money for this term please pay on Monday 21st July avoiding payments on the last day of term when staff are so busy. We need the money immediately so it can be banked. Thank you.  Cheques should be made payable to Lingfield Primary School.

School Dinners – Autumn Term 2008

The cost per day is £1.70. Therefore the weekly cost is £8.50.The first half term will cost £61.20 and the second half to Christmas £59.50 making a total of £120.70 for the term. Cheques should be made payable to Lingfield Primary School. If you are paying weekly please pay on a Monday and if you pay half termly please pay within the first two weeks i.e. in advance. If parents wish their children to change between packed lunches and school meals, it is necessary to inform the school office with a minimum of one week to start the following Monday. Please inform the office by email or letter for the first day of next term if your child is changing.

Leavers’ Assembly

Parents of children in year 6 are invited to the year 6 leavers’ assembly on Wednesday (23rd July) afternoon in the gym starting at 2 p.m. As the gym will be packed with parents we can only accommodate brothers and sisters of present year 6, but not any other former pupils. Younger brothers and sisters still at LPS will also have the opportunity to watch.

 Sports Day

I received, as many teachers did, a lot of positive feedback regarding sports day. The weather was perfect, dry and not too hot. Thank you to Mr Winter for the successful organisation of the day.

District Sports

We hosted the district sports again this year on Wednesday of this week. It was a pleasant and friendly, but also competitive afternoon. Seven schools took part and there were about 280 competitors. The standard of athletics was very impressive and it was great to witness the excellent behaviour and sporting attitude. Congratulations to all our athletes as Lingfield School came second behind St. Mary’s School, Oxted.  Thank you to Mr Winter for organising the whole event and thank you to the Lingfield School staff who supported him in marshalling and officiating. The sports would not be able to take place without this excellent support. Thanks also to the LPSA volunteers who organised the BBQ and refreshments. Well done to all involved.

Lost property

Any items left in the lost property box that are labelled will be returned to the owner. However, items not labelled will be discarded at the end of the term.

Attendance and Family Holidays

As you know, we are no longer able to authorise family holidays taken during the term time. During the summer term 2007 there were 88 children who received 100% attendance certificates. I am delighted to tell you that this term that figure has increased to 156 for summer 2008.

Dear Parents,

Mrs Chanona

As you know Mrs Chanona, Deputy Headteacher, will be taking early retirement at the end of this term, after 18 years of commitment to Lingfield Primary and formally Lingfield First School. If you would like to make a contribution to her leaving gift please leave a marked envelope with the school office.

Suspicious Activity near Tandridge Schools

I have received a letter from Elaine Burtenshaw, Neighbourhood Inspector, explaining that although there has been a lot of talk about suspicious incidents near schools as well as calls to Surrey Police, so far there has not been any offences committed. She explains that, unfortunately, some parents have increased the fear of an incident occurring by contacting schools, texting and calling other parents about events that have not happened and with inf
