The Surrey Association for Visual Impairment
SAVI is here to help anyone whose eyesight has become a
cause for concern whether they are registered as having a visual impairment or
not. Many of our services are provided free of charge.
Any person resident in the administrative county of Surrey can make use of our services and one can contact SAVI for support. If you live outside this area we can give you a contact for service in your local area. We are agents for Surrey County Council we manage and update their register of people with visual impairment of which we currently have 6000 people living in Surrey. And are funded by SCC to provide SCC services as part of their Social Services team.  We also offer many charitable services outside the SCC contract. Services from SAVI We are a major provider of services in Surrey giving information, support and advice, professional assessment of needs, and support to friends and family of visually impaired people. Much of our support is done by visiting people in their own homes, by phone or e-mail or they can make visits to our Centre in Fetcham. These are; Classes in Braille, Moon and Typing A comprehensive Equipment centre to show people how the use of magnifiers, lighting and reading equipment can improve their limited vision, and other equipment to help cope in the home and at work. A chance to find out if computers would make an improvement to their lives by being an alternative to pen and paper and we can offer training on computers with speech output and magnification that will enhance the possibility of using a computer. Everyday living skills Mobility training and equipment to help get about safely Home visiting scheme for to help such as with reading mail and phone friends with friendly volunteers who may share interests. Grants and loans for individuals with needs related to sight loss  Awareness training for professionals and talks to local organisations and groups about sight loss Information in the form of a quarterly newsletter in tape, print, Braille or e-mail, e-mail groups, phone conferences and information leaflets. Community talks to groups such as WI, or Lyons clubs etc. Exhibitions with equipment and advise for visually impaired people, their carers and professionals.
